Hamlet Act 4 Notes1. Fortinbras, Prince of Noraway, his father was also killed and he is vowing to avenge his father's death also. His purpose in the play is to show to set up the contrast. He is able to act to avenge his fathers death. He invades Poland.
He is a foil- a person or thing that sets off or Enhances another by contrast.
2. Hamlet views Fortinbras as an honorable man but his attitude changes when he sees Fortinbras army about to invade Poland. He says he is going to war for no reason. Hamlet is beside himself for his own in action.
